Looking for Hailbut

We have several enjoyable days at anchor in Cannery Cove. The sun came out and the mountain views are spectacular.

The crabbing was great and we were able to get our limit each day.

Our leaking water pump was easily fixed by adding a gasket. For some reason the old pump didn’t have one so when Jeff replaced it a couple of days ago he didn’t put a gasket on. At the time, we questioned why there wasn’t one but the new pump didn’t come with one either. We happened to have a spare gasket that was with an older rebuilt pump and that did the trick. With Idyll Time back at 100 %, we head out into Frederick Sound in search of a halibut. A large cruise ship is just passing by.

The sea otters are lounging about in the flat calm waters of Frederick Sound.

Finding a shallow hump at our lucky fishing spot know as ”Pinky Swear”, we anchor for several hours. Our good friends, Karen and Greg on the Krogen Spirit Journey, join us.

Within a few hours, we have two small halibut aboard. ”Pinky Swear” comes through once again. We have never not caught a halibut here.

With some strong winds forecast, we head to the well protected anchorage of Henry’s Arm for the evening with Spirit Journey following along.

While in Henry’s we Kayak ashore to collect some tasty Sea Asparagus. This small green salty grass starts growing in the spring just above the high tide line. It makes a great addition to salads, pastas, and crab dishes.

The two krogens will head out tomorrow to explore more waters of SE Alaska. Thanks for following along!
